Teste Efectuate
  • Statistici descriptive (M, SD, Min, Max, Asimetrie, Boltire)

  • Descriptive Statistics (M, SD, Min, Max, Skewness, Kurtosis)
  • Normality assessment via skewness and kurtosis

The variables were measured on a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5. Descriptive statistics were computed for all four study variables. IQ_Mean recorded the highest mean score (M = 3.63, SD = 0.70), followed by LS_Mean (M = 3.57, SD = 0.73), TU_Mean (M = 3.48, SD = 0.74), and PI_Mean (M = 3.23, SD = 0.76), which recorded the lowest mean score. Applying the interpretation thresholds for a 5-point scale (1.00–2.33 = Low, 2.34–3.66 = Moderate, 3.67–5.00 = High), all four variables fell within the Moderate range.

An examination of the skewness and kurtosis values indicated that the data approximated a normal distribution for all variables. Skewness values ranged from -0.305 (LS_Mean) to 0.027 (PI_Mean), and kurtosis values ranged from -0.615 (PI_Mean) to -0.009 (IQ_Mean). All values fell within the acceptable thresholds of |skewness| < 2.0 (Gravetter & Wallnau, 2014) and |kurtosis| < 7.0 (Byrne, 2010), confirming that the assumption of normality was satisfied for subsequent analyses.

Secțiunea 2: Analiza de Fiabilitate
Versiunea în română
Teste Efectuate

Tests Performed
  • Cronbach's Alpha reliability analysis
  • Item-total correlation analysis
  • Alpha-if-item-deleted analysis

A reliability analysis was conducted to assess the internal consistency of all measurement scales used in the study. Cronbach's alpha coefficients were interpreted using the threshold criteria established by George and Mallery (2003), whereby values of .90 and above indicate excellent reliability, .80–.89 indicate good reliability, .70–.79 indicate acceptable reliability, .60–.69 indicate questionable reliability, .50–.59 indicate poor reliability, and values below .50 are considered unacceptable.

Results indicated that all four scales demonstrated good internal consistency. The LS scale (5 items) yielded a Cronbach's alpha of α = .868, the IQ scale (5 items) yielded α = .860, the TU scale (5 items) yielded α = .871, and the PI scale (4 items) yielded α = .820. According to George and Mallery (2003), all four values fall within the good range, indicating that the items within each scale consistently measured their respective constructs.

Item-level diagnostics were examined to further evaluate scale quality. Corrected item-total correlations were inspected against the recommended threshold of .30 (Field, 2018), below which an item may not be measuring the same underlying construct as the remainder of the scale. All items across all four scales exceeded this threshold. For the LS scale, corrected item-total correlations ranged from .662 to .721; for the IQ scale, from .664 to .698; for the TU scale, from .680 to .723; and for the PI scale, from .632 to .647. Additionally, examination of the Cronbach's alpha-if-item-deleted values confirmed that removing any individual item from any of the four scales would not meaningfully improve overall scale reliability. Taken together, these findings indicate that all items contributed positively to their respective scales and that all four scales demonstrated adequate internal consistency for use in subsequent analyses.

Teste Efectuate

Tests Performed
  • Shapiro-Wilk test for normality
  • Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for normality
  • Levene's test for homogeneity of variance
  • VIF and Tolerance checks for multicollinearity
  • Durbin-Watson test for independence of residuals
  • Standardized residual inspection for outliers

Prior to conducting the main analyses, several statistical assumptions were examined at a significance level of α = .05. Normality of the four study variables was assessed using both the Shapiro-Wilk and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests. Both tests indicated statistically significant departures from normality for all four variables: LS_Mean, IQ_Mean, TU_Mean, and PI_Mean (all ps ≤ .001; see Table 1). However, inspection of skewness and kurtosis values revealed only mild deviations, with skewness values ranging from −0.305 to +0.027 and kurtosis values ranging from −0.615 to −0.009. Given the large sample size (N = 400), the Central Limit Theorem supports the expectation that sampling distributions of the means will approximate normality; therefore, parametric tests remained appropriate and were retained for all subsequent analyses (Pallant, 2020; Field, 2018).

Homogeneity of variance was evaluated using Levene's test. For the one-way ANOVA examining LS_Mean across Year groups, Levene's test was non-significant, F(3, 396) = 0.623, p = .601, indicating that the assumption of equal variances was satisfied. Similarly, for the independent samples t-test comparing LS_Mean by Gender, Levene's test yielded F = 0.310, p = .578, confirming homogeneity of variance across groups. Equal variances were therefore assumed for both analyses.

For the multiple regression model predicting LS_Mean, additional diagnostic assumptions were examined. Independence of residuals was confirmed via the Durbin-Watson statistic (d = 1.979), which falls within the acceptable range of 1.5 to 2.5, indicating no evidence of autocorrelation among residuals. Multicollinearity was assessed using Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) and Tolerance statistics for each predictor. All VIF values were well below the threshold of 5.0 (range: 1.000–1.103) and all Tolerance values exceeded 0.10 (range: .907–1.000), indicating no multicollinearity concerns (see Table 2). Finally, outliers were assessed by inspecting standardized residuals. The maximum absolute standardized residual was 3.024, which marginally exceeds the ±3.0 guideline but remains within the more conservative ±3.29 threshold commonly applied in social science research (Field, 2018). Cook's Distance values were not available in the output; however, based on the standardized residual inspection, no cases were identified as severely influential. Overall, the regression assumptions were considered sufficiently satisfied to proceed with parametric analysis.

H1

H1

An independent samples t-test was conducted to examine whether LS_Mean differed between Gender group 1 and Gender group 2. Levene's test for equality of variances was non-significant, F(1, 396) = 0.31, p = .578, so equal variances were assumed. The analysis, conducted on N = 398 (two cases with Gender = 3 were excluded), revealed a statistically significant difference between Gender group 1 (M = 3.42, SD = 0.74) and Gender group 2 (M = 3.69, SD = 0.71), t(396) = −3.703, p < .001, 95% CI [−.411, −.126], mean difference = −0.27. Cohen's d = 0.37, indicating a small effect size (Cohen, 1988). H1 was supported.

H2

A paired samples t-test was conducted to examine whether IQ_Mean and PI_Mean differed within the same participants. This was a within-subject comparison of two constructs in a cross-sectional dataset, not a pre/post design. The analysis (N = 400) indicated that IQ_Mean (M = 3.63, SD = 0.70) was significantly higher than PI_Mean (M = 3.23, SD = 0.76), t(399) = 8.670, p < .001, 95% CI [.316, .501], mean difference = 0.41. The paired correlation between the two variables was r(398) = .177, p < .001. Cohen's dz = 0.43, indicating a small effect size (Cohen, 1988). H2 was supported.

A one-way ANOVA was conducted to examine whether LS_Mean differed across Year of study groups. Levene's test for equality of variances was non-significant, F(3, 396) = 0.623, p = .601, supporting the assumption of homogeneity of variance. The ANOVA revealed a statistically significant difference in LS_Mean across the four Year of study groups, F(3, 396) = 3.006, p = .030, η² = .022, indicating a small effect size (Cohen, 1988). Tukey HSD post-hoc comparisons indicated that only the difference between Year 1 (M = 3.39, SD = 0.69) and Year 2 (M = 3.67, SD = 0.72) reached statistical significance (mean difference = −0.271, SE = 0.104, p = .046). All remaining pairwise comparisons were non-significant, with all p ≥ .077. H3 was supported.

H4

Pearson correlations were computed to examine associations among LS_Mean, IQ_Mean, TU_Mean, PI_Mean, and StudyHours (N = 400 for all pairs). Significant positive associations were found between LS_Mean and IQ_Mean, r(398) = .479, p < .001; between LS_Mean and TU_Mean, r(398) = .390, p < .001; between LS_Mean and PI_Mean, r(398) = .243, p < .001; between IQ_Mean and TU_Mean, r(398) = .260, p < .001; and between IQ_Mean and PI_Mean, r(398) = .177, p < .001. The association between TU_Mean and PI_Mean was not significant, r(398) = .066, p = .185. StudyHours showed no significant correlation with any of the scale variables: LS_Mean, r(398) = .044, p = .375; IQ_Mean, r(398) = −.010, p = .835; TU_Mean, r(398) = −.005, p = .922; PI_Mean, r(398) = .003, p = .957.

Regarding effect sizes (Cohen, 1988), the correlation between LS_Mean and IQ_Mean (r = .479) represented a medium effect; the correlations between LS_Mean and TU_Mean (r = .390) and between IQ_Mean and TU_Mean (r = .260) each represented medium effects; and the correlations between LS_Mean and PI_Mean (r = .243) and between IQ_Mean and PI_Mean (r = .177) each represented small effects. All remaining correlations involving TU_Mean and PI_Mean, or any variable paired with StudyHours, were negligible in magnitude.

Because TU_Mean and PI_Mean were not significantly correlated with each other (p = .185), and StudyHours was not significantly correlated with any variable, H4 was partially supported.

H5

Simple linear regression was conducted to examine whether IQ_Mean significantly predicted LS_Mean. The overall model was statistically significant, F(1, 398) = 118.343, p < .001, R = .479, R² = .229, adjusted R² = .227, indicating that IQ_Mean accounted for 22.9% of the variance in LS_Mean. IQ_Mean was a significant predictor, B = 0.497, SE = 0.046, β = .479, t(398) = 10.879, p < .001. A one-unit increase in IQ_Mean was associated with a 0.497-unit increase in LS_Mean. Cohen's f² = 0.297, representing a medium effect size (Cohen, 1988). H5 was supported.

H6

Multiple linear regression was conducted to examine whether IQ_Mean, TU_Mean, PI_Mean, and StudyHours jointly predicted LS_Mean. The overall model was statistically significant, F(4, 395) = 48.878, p < .001, R = .575, R² = .331, adjusted R² = .324, indicating that the four predictors jointly accounted for 33.1% of the variance in LS_Mean. Cohen's f² = 0.495, representing a large effect size (Cohen, 1988).

Three predictors were statistically significant: IQ_Mean (B = 0.393, SE = 0.045, β = .378, t = 8.752, p < .001), TU_Mean (B = 0.276, SE = 0.042, β = .281, t = 6.594, p < .001), and PI_Mean (B = 0.150, SE = 0.040, β = .157, t = 3.762, p < .001). StudyHours was not a significant predictor (B = 0.012, SE = 0.010, β = .049, t = 1.199, p = .231). Based on the standardized coefficients, IQ_Mean was the strongest predictor (|β| = .378), followed by TU_Mean (|β| = .281) and PI_Mean (|β| = .157). A one-unit increase in IQ_Mean was associated with a 0.393-unit increase in LS_Mean, a one-unit increase in TU_Mean was associated with a 0.276-unit increase in LS_Mean, and a one-unit increase in PI_Mean was associated with a 0.150-unit increase in LS_Mean, each holding the other predictors constant.

Multicollinearity diagnostics indicated no concerns: the largest VIF was 1.103 and the smallest Tolerance was .907. The Durbin-Watson statistic was 1.979, indicating no evidence of autocorrelation in the residuals. Because StudyHours did not reach significance, H6 was partially supported.

H7

A chi-square test of independence was conducted to examine whether an association existed between Gender and DeviceType. The test was statistically significant, χ²(6, N = 400) = 25.854, p < .001. With df_min = 2 (based on three Gender categories and four or more DeviceType categories), Cramér's V = .180, indicating a small effect size (Cohen, 1988). H7 was supported.

⚠️ Assumption Violation: 4 cells (33.3%) had expected counts below 5 (minimum expected count = 0.11). This is a SEVERE violation of the chi-square assumption, driven primarily by the very small Gender = 3 group (n = 2). These results should be interpreted with explicit caution. Consider: (a) combining or collapsing sparse categories and re-running the analysis, (b) Fisher's Exact Test if the table can be reduced to a 2×2 structure, or (c) excluding the Gender = 3 group and re-running the test on the two primary gender groups only.

H8

PROCESS Model 4 mediation analysis (Hayes, 2022) was conducted using 5,000 bootstrap samples to examine whether TU_Mean mediated the relationship between IQ_Mean and LS_Mean. The a-path, representing the effect of IQ_Mean on TU_Mean, was significant, B = 0.275, SE = 0.051, t = 5.377, p < .001, 95% CI [.174, .375]. The b-path, representing the effect of TU_Mean on LS_Mean controlling for IQ_Mean, was also significant, B = 0.280, SE = 0.043, t = 6.562, p < .001, 95% CI [.196, .363]. The indirect effect of IQ_Mean on LS_Mean through TU_Mean was significant, B = 0.077, BootSE = 0.018, 95% Boot CI [.044, .114], as the confidence interval excluded zero. The completely standardized indirect effect was .074. The direct effect of IQ_Mean on LS_Mean remained significant after controlling for TU_Mean, B = 0.420, SE = 0.045, t = 9.337, p < .001, 95% CI [.332, .509]. The total effect of IQ_Mean on LS_Mean was B = 0.497, SE = 0.046, t = 10.879, p < .001, 95% CI [.407, .587]. Because both the indirect effect and the direct effect were significant, the results indicated partial mediation. H8 was supported.

Note. N = 400. Mediation estimated using PROCESS Model 4 (Hayes, 2022) with 5,000 bootstrap samples. The 95% CI for the indirect effect is a bias-corrected bootstrap confidence interval. ᵃBootSE and Boot CI. Completely standardized indirect effect = .074. Partial mediation was indicated.

H9

PROCESS Model 1 moderation analysis (Hayes, 2022) was conducted to examine whether StudyHours moderated the relationship between IQ_Mean and LS_Mean, with variables mean-centered prior to analysis. The interaction term between IQ_Mean and StudyHours was not statistically significant, B = 0.0003, SE = 0.013, t = 0.020, p = .984, 95% CI [−.026, .027], ΔR² = .000, F(1, 396) = 0.0004, p = .984. The change in R² attributable to the interaction term was negligible. Because no conditional effects were available (the interaction was non-significant and no simple slopes were estimable), no conditional effects table is presented. These results indicated that StudyHours did not moderate the effect of IQ_Mean on LS_Mean. H9 was not supported.
